Perpetual Child

A larva
too much of my life
a polyp spinning through water
carried in a swift instant
on a myriad of dancing fins
hesitating over a patch of sand
some honeycombed coral
rippling waves over the forever future
when I will anchor into sand
I must stop skimming lightly away
from the edges of islands
and learn to land bravely
on unknown shores
of new lands.
